Islah – Supply Run to Standing Rock

The Dakota Access Pipeline has been blocked for now. However, the good news is tempered by the knowledge that Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) has made it clear that they intend to finish the pipeline. We are reminded that often political announcements are simply tactics created to delay and distract resistors. Water Protectors at Standing Rock have decided to remain on their ground to defend the sacred through the winter months.

Despite blizzards and sub- zero temperatures, the indigenous community and their loyal comrades will remain steadfast in this battle against the black snake. With the election of Donald Trump, a strong proponent and investor of fossil fuels, it is critical that we continue to support our Water Protectors leading up to his inauguration and beyond. While the intense weather conditions have increased the challenges faced by the resisters, we can help them stay strong.

Individuals located throughout Northern California are responding to the Calls to Action from tribal leaders residing in the Standing Rock resistance camps. Islah representatives will leave Santa Cruz, California and fly to North Dakota (at their expense) to purchase the most crucial supplies locally and deliver your donation to the Water Protectors to support their steadfastness in the face of adversity.

While we have been told directly by individuals in the camps that WATER, FIREWOOD, FOOD, and EXTREME WEATHER CLOTHING are some of the top priorities at this time, we are also raising money for their legal defense fund.

NONE OF THE MONEY RAISED WILL BE USED TO FUND TRANSPORTATION.  The money will ONLY be used to purchase the supplies and replenish the legal fund.

There are over 5,000 water protectors residing in the camps on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, and as many as 11,000 were present on Thanksgiving day. Your donation will help keep them warm and nourished as they continue their fight against the black snake.

People on the ground at Standing Rock are faced with violence and arrest from militarized police and private security every day. Medics in the camps have warned that conditions are becoming life threatening for our Water Protectors. They need all the support that those of us watching around the world can give. Now more than ever, it is critical that we stand up against greed and corporate power by perservering in our commitment to protecting the planet and putting people before profits.
